After going to Turkey Run and reviving the memory of how unique it was, I returned. This time I thought I would look for fungi. I thought strongly about studying mycology when I was in school. One of my botany courses was taught by a world renown mycologist and I found it quite interesting. So I have always had a warm spot in my belly for fungus. That is why I can't throw out moldy food.
My hike resulted in finding several specimen. As you may know it is very difficult to approach a fungus. If they hear you they will withdraw back into the ground or explode. The best way to approach one is to walk backward to the site and then turn suddenly. This scares them into a momentary frozen state and then you can photograph them.
